At 18 Siedah Jet Waller is London’s one of London’s youngest and busiest DJs. Raised in Hackney before moving to Woolwich, South London, she’s the only female resident on the Licence To Trill line ups- as well as being the youngest member of the collective. That process of playing in front of a room full of boys who have come there specifically to listen to a niche genre of music, and, lets face it, do a lot of jumping about might be daunting, but it’s something she takes in her stride and she’s gained a reputation for hysteria-inducing sweaty sets.
Her dad’a producer so she’s comfortable with the technical side of things; software, studio equipment are second nature to Siedah, as is a house full of music. Both her dad and sister’s love of Grime and Trap genres have shaped Siedah’s sets. As a youngster she’d spend hours on music blogs and forums burning tracks and filling friends’ USBs up with music after school, scan music blogs and forums and play at her older sister’s events in Dalston in her teens.
Aside from Licence To Trill, Siedah has played gigs for Nike, Billionaire Boys Club, Trapstar, Work It, Livin Proof, and more. She also hosts her own self-titled show on Radar Radio and can be found over at Beats1 Radio creating guest mixes for people like Stormzy. In fact, Stormzy is such a fan, he’s called her out on Twitter as playing one of ‘the best DJ sets I’ve heard in my life’- if that doesn’t qualify as a quality vindication of her talent, we’re not sure what does.
Did we mention she was also one of the many babes that made up Skepta’s now monumental Shutdown video, which for her was made extra special by “everyone going crazy to Skippa Da Flippa's 'Safe House' mid-shoot!.” While not busy behind a booth or at college you’ll mostly find her in South hanging out with her cat (“son”) Melvin, or with her boyfriend at Gaby's caribbean takeaway on Wooly road in Elephant and Castle.
