When MIA X Versus dropped we clapped like baby seals. Sure the clothes were really fancy and pretty- but we wanted to know WHO the fancy-face wearing it all was. So, apparently, did everyone else. The woman in question was Portia Ferrari, Antiagency’s foxy frontman. Antiagency is London’s most unique model agency; based upon the provison of scouting characters- and doing away with the well-chiselled, tabula rasa-types and injecting a much needed swagger and punk idiosyncrasy into the model-world (think a lot of candy-coloured hair, gap teeth, tattoos and piercings). In their words ‘people too cool to model’- hence poster-girl Portia. Last year Portia walked for Nasir Mazhar (a show that was more baby-hair than clothes), gave Kimye a run for their money in column inch space, was featured on the cover of ES magazine and became Assistant Creative Director of Noctis Magazine.
Initially a career as an artist didn’t seem so attractive. Portia decided she wanted to be a lawyer after watching Liar Liar as a youth (we feel that) but soon her love of creative disciplines at school propelled her to take a place at London College of Fashion, doing hair and make up, and it was there that her career as a model initially took off.
Portia is currently finishing her degree, and has been keeping herself pretty busy after-school hours too. Most recently Portia has been working on her latest scheme: LDN FAM which is a platform that exhibits Portia and her ‘family’s’ utterly astounding plethora of activities and expertise. In fact she’s also been in the studio. Yeah, she can also sing. The words ‘gene-pool’ and ‘unfair’ spring to mind. Portia’s first foray as a vocalist has been in collaboration with with Super Electric Party Machine. SEPM is the creation of Larry Tee, legend of the NYC party scene and one of the original Club Kids led by Michael Alig. Originally a club night, Larry Tee has translated the party vibes into an album of the same name. It was on set at a Princess Superstar video, that Portia was heard singing ‘Lion Babe’ that the main man himself felt compelled to get her in the studio. The result? Her appearance on his track BodyTalk.
We'd put our whole overdraft on this girl being the face of 2014.
