No one wears a scrunchie quite like our next BabyFace addition, Lauren Michelle Pires. You might recognise Lauren as one of the Wah babes from their Christmas campaign; the one in the pink sequin prom dress and matching baby pink fur? Yeah! that's the one.
Originally Lauren began a degree in graphic design at Central St Martins before she found herself in a dark room and felt compelled to pick up a camera. Lauren ended up backstage at the Female Bodybuilding Championships shooting portraits for her graduate collection spawning an interest in documentary-style photography that has become Lauren's fingerprint in both her commercial and personal work. In fact Lauren is slowly amassing an archive of backstage content from fashion weeks, body building competitions, cheerleading contests and beauty pageants which she intends to refine and release as part of a larger project in a few years time. 'A few years' is a lifetime in the age of the Instagram-upload, so naturally we were curious about the delay; 'there is a level of trust I have to build with the individuals I meet backstage at championships' explains Lauren, 'to avoid being intrusive and to make them feel as comfortable as possible with me being in their personal space. I want to capture the real them, those 'off' moments before and after the climax of show time'.
Lauren's dream subject? If she could shoot anyone dead or alive, the ultimate showman- a baby MJ (her dad getting her tickets to Michael Jackson's History Tour in '97 still ranks as a best-day-of-my-life moment for Lauren). Having shot for Vans, Nike and with a London Fashion Week cover for ES Magazine to her name, Lauren's probably unique in that she's as comfortable behind the lens as she is in front of it. She's got a whole load of modelling gigs under her wee belt too, from Nike campaigns to Gourmet footwear look-books.
We're going to take this moment to level with you now, Lauren doesn't only shoot and model on set she's also a professional nail artist; we're talking nude dollar bill stilettos, blood-red half-moons for Wonderland Magazine and 3D white rose talons for Pixie Lott's Nasty music video. Ok, so she doesn't just do all of that… Lauren also makes cakes that would make Willy Wonka blush (you'll never lust after those crusty Louis Vuitton cake-bags down Kingsland road anymore). Lauren will casually whip you up a Versace Medusa cake, or how about a polyfilla icing Mariah Carey 'Heartbreaker' one? Not fussed, what about 3ft white raspberry and almond cake with gold leaf? Mary Berry, who? If you don't believe us just check out the hashtag #cakeformylovedonez. Did we mention it's one of our birthday's next week? Hem-hem…
